Refuse to Re-Use - More finds

I plan to use Brian Eno's oblique strategy cards at the start of each day to see how this influences what I do .
Here is today's very appropriate selection - in future it will be random .

It is unbelievable how much waste comes in and out of the centre each day - there is a peak at the weekend and it takes the team until Wednesday to catch up in terms of sorting the waste and removing it to landfill and to specialist recycling and re-use companies.

Amongst it all there are some gems...

May have bagged myself a container full of plugs - need to work out how to display them all.

Refuse to Re-Use - Collecting

The mattress mountain is impressive and increasingly colourful - I think I've had my fill of stripping the mattress down to the metal springs though.

I am on the lookout for old hi fi and radio equipment - one of the team pointed out this old valve radio and turntable - too big but perhaps I should just extract the valve units ...

Good use of old speakers, utilising the magnet at the back of the speaker - another idea for a piece.

Single of the week .

Refuse to Re-Use - Day One

A few months back, I sent an unsolicited proposal to The London Borough of Richmond upon Thames, to become their artist in residence at Townmead Road re-use and recycling centre. I started my 8 week residency today.
A 15 minute cycle ride to the centre.

View from the workshop - I have a great space to store my objects and materials in the workshop. I also get help from the team who work there in moving my selections back to my studio space in the workshop.

All sorts of objects turn up at the site, including a 1960's speed boat.

Some of my finds on the first day.

You hum it, I'll sing it ...
