Refuse to Re-Use - This is the end ...

I finished the Residency today and am anticipating severe withdrawal symptoms.
I worked at the site for seven weeks and was supported and helped throughout, by the team which works there - thank you again.
I will be showing some of the work next week at College and will document on this blog and twitter.
Some final images

Looks odd without my sign outside

Items left for the further recycling and re-use.

Leaving for the last time ............... although the leader of the team's last comment was "See you next summer ..."

Refuse to Re-Use - A welcome note

During this 7 week residency there have been a few occasions where I've thought about whether any of this makes any sense - then I spot another interesting object and I'm up and running again.
So it was really encouraging to come in to the studio this morning to find a hand written note - the writer left his name but I will keep this to myself for the moment.

The note says,

"That is the artist's role - to strike out always for something new, to break away, to defy, to - to grapple with the unfamiliar ..."
He staggered out to the terrace, confronted the long shallow steps, stared towards the ever-changing aspect of parkland.
Only the familiar ghosts confronted him, the deserted webs of other lives, other epochs.

Refuse to Re-Use - almost the end

I finish the residency on friday of this week - so i am trying to stop collecting and just edit what I have for the show. However, there is always something that catches the eye ...

Refuse to Re-Use - Kempton, where the good stuff goes

The dealers on the site, known as Totters, collect anything of value that the council doesn't take and then sell them at antique fairs such as Kempton Park.
I was interested to see how items left for landfill and of no apparent value to the owner, could recommence their journey and up value.
It was an usually misty start...
